The Movie: Never Cry Wolf (1983)
What Is It?: Carroll
Ballard’s adaptation of Farley’s Mowat’s real-life account of chilling with
wolves in subarctic Canada has all the mature acting (Charles Martin Smith
rules as Mowat) and intelligence of a great drama and the wicked ick factor of
a great cult flick (Smith spends a lot of time peeing and chows down on Ritz
cracker and mouse sandwiches).
Why Today?: On
this day in 1964, Lyndon Johnson signs
the Wilderness Act.
