The Movie: The Haunting (1963)
What Is It?: Robert
Wise’s adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House proves that
it’s what you don’t see that’s the scariest. However, what you do hear will
make you crap your pants. This movie has everything: scares, laughs, likable
yet deeply flawed characters acted
by an expert cast, and brilliant camerawork. John Carpenter thinks it’s
bullshit because you don’t see any ghosts. Too bad for him.
Why Today?: Today
is Paranormal Day.
