So much 'Head'! Rhino and Criterion deliver deluxe editions to Monkees Freaks

Just popped on Facebook (for that is what I do way more often than any grown man needs to when I'm between jobs) and a post by my Facebook friend* Andrew Sandoval put a little spark in my step.** Monkees freaks know Sandoval as the cat who co-produced and composed liner notes for all those boffo Monkees reissues on Rhino records, including the incredible triple-disc edition of The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees released earlier this year. He also wrote the excellent The Monkees Day-by-Day. A not-so-cryptic picture Sandoval posted on the Facebook yesterday revealed that Monkee-maniacs should brace themselves for another big re-issue event. Here 'tis:

Yes, kids, that there is the cover of the soundtrack to The Monkees' cult classic Head, and it is one of the group's most bizarre, most amazing records. "Circle Sky"? "Porpoise Song"? "As We Go Along"? "Long Title: Do I Have to Do This All Over Again?"? Hell Yes on all accounts.

A little subsequent research revealed that not only will Rhino Records be unleashing a triple-disc handmade deluxe edition of the Head soundtrack--complete with reflective cover a la the original LP-- this coming October 26th (you can pre-order it at starting September 20th), but Criterion, those purveyors of ultra-suede DVD re-issues, will be unleashing a new version of the Head film on Blu-ray November 23 and DVD on December 14 as part of its America Lost and Found: The BBS Story boxed set. The set is a collection of films by Monkees-creators Bert Schneider and Bob Rafelson and other guy Steve Blauner. The other films included are Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, Drive, He Said, A Safe Place, The Last Picture Show, and The King of Marvin Gardens.

*Meaning, I've never met nor interacted with him.

**This is a lie. I'm sitting.

And now, the specs:
